This project consisted of the adaptive re-use of a single tenant office building, Palladian Health, into a two tenant building housing both Palladian Health offices and a new satellite location for Houghton College’s Program for Accelerated College Education. The college was seeking a space that offered professional corporate level accommodations for the new program.
The new facilities accommodate both teaching and office functions for the PACE program. This project required that TRM coordinate programming carefully with both Houghton College and Palladian Health Center to determine appropriate adjacencies, secure and separated areas, as well as any functions that could be shared by both tenants to create efficiencies such as entry areas and the cafeteria space. Remaining portions of Palladian Health facilities had to be secure from Houghton College, for example, glass partitions at two story atrium spaces to separate the facilities.
The interior renovations included approximately 8,000 sq. ft. of space comprised of multiple new classrooms, a computer lab, a multi-use lecture space to accommodate 100 people, a student lounge space, visitor reception area, storage areas, library and kitchenette space. The exisiting women’s restroom was renovated to provide handicap accessibility. The project also included new office space for P.A.C.E. faculty and staff to create a one-stop educational service. This unique project created an interesting challenge of combining office and educational functions in a space shared by another tenant. The project schedule was also monitored carefully to ensure meeting completion dates to be available for open house.
