TRM was commissioned by The Cheesecake Factory to work with their design team to develop a new design scheme for a 10,900 sq. ft. Grand Lux Café located at the Cherry Hill Mall in New Jersey. This project was the first of a new design scheme for Grand Lux Cafe that replaces the opulent and curvilinear details of typical GLC restaurants with a sleek, modern new look emphasizing clean lines and dramatic lighting. TRM worked carefully with The Cheesecake Factory to help develop the new design and bring it into reality through careful attention to detail.
TRM completed a code analysis, construction documents and construction administration services. Construction documents were completed using building information modeling software which accelerated the design process allowing the client to easily visualize changes including those to the patio canopy. The restaurant included a bar, cocktail lounge, lobby, dining spaces open to an expo kitchen and bakery, to-go area, a 750 SF covered outdoor patio, service yard and back-of-house spaces. The exterior featured a filled and polished travertine finish, large vertical fenestration, glass canopies with embedded LED lights, a color changing light band, numerous recessed pockets for wall wash lights, decorative columns, and sunscreen canopies with recessed panels. Interior spaces included design elements such as multiple fireplaces, wood slat ceilings, and innovative lighting.
The project required the relocation or accommodation of numerous existing underground utilities including an undocumented underground electrical vault which required quick adjustments and coordination with the design team and contractors. It is TRM’s responsiveness throughout design and construction that has enabled us to retain many long-standing clients like The Cheesecake Factory. This project represents one of more than sixty restaurants completed for The Cheesecake Factory. This project was especially challenging in that the new design required entirely new detailing while the time allocated to complete contract documents was similar to that of any other typical Grand Lux Café project. Despite numerous challenges the project was completed on schedule and TRM completed construction documents within the two months allocated in the fast paced project schedule.
